Privacy Policy for FettCheck

1. Introduction

At FettCheck, we take your privacy extremely seriously. FettCheck is built from the ground up as an offline-first, privacy-respecting health and nutritional decision tool.

We do not sell your personal data, we do not serve advertisements, we do not embed tracking or analytics SDKs, and we do not maintain cloud servers that store your personal records.

2. Information We Handle and How It Is Used

A. Camera Access (Barcode Scanner)

• Purpose: The app requests camera permission solely to detect and read product barcodes (EAN-8, EAN-13, UPC) in real time while you shop.
• Storage & Transmission: All barcode recognition happens directly on your device. No photos, videos, or camera frames are ever saved, stored, or transmitted to any server.

B. Product Information Lookup (Open Food Facts)

• Purpose: When you scan or search a barcode, the barcode number is sent to the public Open Food Facts API (ODbL) to retrieve public nutritional facts (saturated fats, calories, ingredients, etc.).
• Data Transmitted: Only the barcode digits and the application user-agent are queried over a secure HTTPS connection. No personally identifiable information (PII), device IDs, or user profiles are sent.

C. Local Health & Dietary Data (Lipid Records & Saved Products)

• User Data: If you choose to use the optional Lab Records (Laborwerte) feature, you may record your LDL/HDL cholesterol measurements and notes. You may also save custom manual food items and bookmarks.
• Local Storage & Encryption: All lipid records, bookmarks, portions, and scan history are saved strictly on your local device inside an authenticated, encrypted local vault.
• Zero Cloud Transfer: This data is never sent to our servers, Google, or any third parties.

D. Export & Sharing (PDF / JSON)

If you choose to export your records as a PDF report for your doctor or as a JSON backup, the file is generated locally on your device. You have full control over where and to whom the file is shared via your device’s native share sheet.

3. Third-Party Services and Analytics

• No Advertising SDKs: FettCheck contains zero ads and does not integrate with any advertising networks.
• No Analytics or Tracking SDKs: We do not track your behavior across other apps or websites, and we do not use third-party analytics trackers (such as Google Analytics or Firebase Analytics).
• Open Food Facts: Public nutritional data is provided under the Open Database License (ODbL). For information on Open Food Facts' data practices, visit world.openfoodfacts.org.

4. Data Retention and Deletion

Because all data resides solely on your physical device, you retain complete ownership and control:

• In-App Deletion: You can permanently delete all saved products, scan history, and lab records at any time by navigating to Mehr (More) > Daten verwalten (Manage Data) > Lokale Daten löschen (Delete local data).
• Uninstalling the App: Uninstalling FettCheck from your device immediately removes all local app storage and encrypted records.

5. Children’s Privacy

FettCheck is designed for adult consumers (ages 18 and older) managing grocery shopping and dietary lipids. We do not knowingly solicit or collect any personal information from children under the age of 13.

6. Security

We implement industry-standard cryptographic techniques to safeguard your locally stored records on your device. Keeping your mobile device secured with a PIN or biometric lock ensures optimal protection for your local data.

7. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Any updates will be published directly to this page and reflected with an updated "Effective Date".
